A Different Way to Think About January Fitness Goals

(No pressure. No perfection. Just possibility.)
I’ll keep this short because let’s be honest, none of us has time for a long blog post in December!
Between school shows, nativity costumes, Christmas parties, work deadlines, and the endless list of things we’re meant to remember… even finding time to drink a hot cup of tea feels like a luxury.
And believe me, I get it.
With a house renovation in full swing, two busy boys, Baby & Me classes, client sessions, and trying to locate the Christmas jumpers that fit this year… I’m right there with you.
Christmas will be here before we know it - and December already feels like a sprint.
So the last thing I want to do is add pressure or tell you that now is the time to overhaul your life.
It’s not.

Right now, we’re all just trying to make it through with sanity intact (and maybe a mince pie or two).
But here’s a gentle thought for you…
What if January was your gift to yourself?
Not a punishment. Not a list of unachievable January fitness goals. Not a “start again” moment. Not a shame-fuelled gym membership.
But time. For you. For your body. For your mind.
💛 Time to feel good again
💛 Time to rebuild energy
💛 Time to put yourself somewhere other than last place on the list
Not because you need fixing. But because you deserve support, space and strength after giving so much to everyone else.
Why This Matters
Winter naturally hits us hard.
Less daylight = more melatonin (hello tiredness)
Less serotonin = mood dips
More stress = less sleep and more chocolate raiding
Which is exactly why movement matters more than ever; not for weight loss, or punishment, but for energy, sleep, mood and a sense of control.
And it doesn’t need to be intense:
✨ A 10-minute stretch counts
✨ A lunch break walk counts
✨ A short session in your living room counts
Every little bit of movement helps you arrive in January feeling steady, not starting from scratch.
So Here’s Your Permission Slip
If December is overwhelming… let it be.
If you need to just get through the madness… do that.
If exercise feels like one more thing on the list… step back.
And when you’re ready. in January, give yourself time back.
Not to change yourself, but to look after yourself.
If you’d like support when that time comes,I’ll be opening spaces for 1-1, small group PT and online coaching in the new year - flexible, realistic and built around real life (chaos included).
💛 No guilt
💛 No all-or-nothing
💛 Just showing up for yourself again
Here’s to surviving December, not perfecting it.
And to stepping into January with kindness, hope, and some time for ourselves.
Susan x
