Baby & Me Fitness Classes in Colinton, Edinburgh: Supportive Postnatal Exercise for Real Mum Life

There is a very specific stage in motherhood where you know you would like to feel stronger again, but actually making that happen can feel complicated. You might be tired, feeding through the night, recovering from birth, juggling an older child, managing naps, getting to appointments, keeping on top of everyday life, and trying to understand a body that feels different to the one you knew before.

Somewhere in amongst all of that, you are also supposed to find time to exercise, and for many mums that can feel like one more thing on an already very full list.

That is exactly why my Baby & Me Fitness classes in Colinton exist. They are not about “bouncing back”, rushing your recovery, or putting pressure on your body before it is ready. They are about giving mums a safe, supportive space to move, rebuild strength, understand their bodies, and feel a little more like themselves again.

Postnatal Fitness in Colinton That Understands Real Life

My Baby & Me Fitness class takes place in Colinton, Edinburgh, and is designed for mums who want to exercise without needing to arrange childcare. Your baby can come with you, whether they are sleeping, feeding, wriggling, making noise, needing cuddles, or simply lying beside you on a mat while you move.

This is fitness that works around real mum life, because I know that for many mums the biggest barrier is not a lack of motivation. It is the logistics, the tiredness, the confidence, the uncertainty about whether your body is ready, and the worry that your baby might cry halfway through the class.

Baby & Me Fitness removes as many of those barriers as possible, so you can come along, move safely, and be in a room with other mums who understand exactly what this stage of life feels like.

Why My Work Now Focuses So Much on Women’s Health

Most of my work now is with women at different stages of life, from postnatal recovery through to perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause. Although each stage is different, there is a common thread running through all of them: hormones can have a huge impact on how our bodies feel, move, recover and respond to exercise.

That is something I care deeply about in my coaching, because exercise for women should never be one-size-fits-all. It should not ignore the impact of pregnancy, birth, sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, pelvic floor changes, abdominal recovery, cycle changes, perimenopause symptoms, menopause, fatigue, stress or confidence.

Your body is not separate from the life you are living in it, and that is why my approach to postnatal fitness is built around support, education and realistic progression. It is not about pushing harder for the sake of it. It is about understanding where your body is now and helping you rebuild from there.

I’ve Been Through the Postnatal Stage Twice Myself

I have been through the postnatal stage twice myself, so I know how intense and emotional that season of life can be. I know what it feels like to be recovering from pregnancy and birth while still trying to function as a person, and I know what it feels like to have a baby who needs you constantly while you try to find little pockets of time for yourself.

I also know how different the postnatal experience can feel the second time around. When you have an older child as well as a baby, life does not pause in the same way. School runs still happen, meals still need made, bags still need packed, and everyone still needs something from you.

That is why I never want Baby & Me Fitness to feel like another pressure on your list. It should feel like support: a chance to move your body safely, rebuild strength, get out of the house, meet other mums, and do something for yourself without needing to separate yourself from your baby.

Why Safe Postnatal Exercise Matters

The postnatal period is a time of huge physical change. Your body has grown and birthed a baby, and your core, pelvic floor, posture, hips, back, shoulders and energy levels may all feel very different. If you are feeding, carrying, lifting prams, sitting in awkward positions or surviving on broken sleep, your body is already under a lot of demand before you even add exercise into the mix.

That is why postnatal exercise needs to be done properly. Before starting a postnatal fitness class, it is important to have clearance from your GP, midwife or relevant health professional. If you have pelvic pain, heaviness, leaking, birth trauma, diastasis recti concerns, ongoing pain or anything that does not feel right, I would always recommend speaking to a women’s health physio. (Here's a great one - Hannah)

In class, the focus is on rebuilding gradually and safely through movement that supports your body rather than overwhelms it. This may include strength exercises suitable for postnatal bodies, gentle cardio to rebuild fitness, pelvic floor awareness, core rehabilitation principles, posture work, glute and hip strength, mobility, control and movement that supports daily life as a mum.

The aim is not to rush your body back to where it was. The aim is to help you feel stronger, steadier, more confident and more supported in the body you are in now.

Exercise After Having a Baby Is About More Than Fitness

One of the things I wish more people understood is that postnatal exercise is not just about physical fitness. For many mums, it is about confidence, getting out of the house, doing something that is yours, reconnecting with your body, feeling less alone and remembering that your health matters too.

When you are in the thick of the baby stage, even 45 minutes of safe, supportive movement can change how you feel for the rest of the day. You might arrive tired, frazzled or unsure, but you can leave feeling a little lighter, a little stronger and a little more like yourself.

That matters, and it is one of the reasons I feel so strongly about creating fitness spaces that are welcoming, realistic and genuinely supportive for women.

Baby & Me Fitness Classes in Edinburgh Without Childcare Stress

If you are looking for postnatal fitness classes in Edinburgh, one of the biggest benefits of Baby & Me is that your baby comes with you. You do not need to organise childcare, wait until your baby is in a perfect routine, worry if they cry, or feel awkward if you need to stop and feed, cuddle or change them.

This is a baby-friendly fitness class, but it is still a workout for you. It is not about using your baby as gym equipment or making the whole session about your baby. It is about creating a space where your baby can be nearby while you focus on rebuilding your own strength and fitness.

That distinction is really important to me, because you are allowed to have time for your body and your wellbeing even with your baby beside you.

A Supportive Fitness Class for Mums in Colinton

Baby & Me Fitness is based in Colinton, Edinburgh, making it ideal for mums in Colinton and nearby areas such as Craiglockhart, Juniper Green, Slateford, Longstone, Balerno, Currie, Oxgangs, Morningside and south west Edinburgh.

It is a local, friendly class where mums can come as they are. You do not need to be fit before you start, know exactly what you are doing, have exercised before pregnancy, or feel confident walking in. That is what the class is there for.

You will be guided through safe, supportive movement with someone who understands postnatal recovery, women’s health, hormones, strength training and the reality of exercising as a busy mum.

Why Strength Training Is So Important for Mums

Strength training is one of the most valuable things you can do after having a baby, once your body is ready, because motherhood is physical. You are lifting, carrying, bending, feeding, rocking, pushing prams, lifting car seats, carrying bags, getting up and down from the floor, and often doing all of it on very little sleep.

Building strength can help support your body through the everyday demands of being a mum. It can help with posture, back and shoulder strength, core connection, hip and glute strength, energy levels, confidence, stability, general fitness and long-term health.

Because my wider work supports women through postnatal recovery, perimenopause, menopause and beyond, I see strength as something that supports women through every stage of life. The earlier we learn to train in a way that supports our body, rather than punishes it, the better.

What to Expect at Baby & Me Fitness

Baby & Me Fitness is a 45-minute class designed to be supportive, realistic and adaptable. Every class is built around safe movement, strength and confidence, with exercises adapted depending on where you are in your postnatal recovery, how you are feeling that day, and what your body needs.

Your baby or toddler is welcome to come along with you, and they do not need to be silent, settled or perfectly entertained for the whole class. Some babies sleep, some feed, some roll around, some need cuddles, and some toddlers explore. That is all part of the class, and nobody expects perfection.

You can expect a friendly, welcoming environment, postnatal-friendly exercises, options and adaptations, strength-based movement, gentle cardio elements, core and pelvic floor awareness, and support from someone who understands women’s bodies.

Most importantly, you can expect to be met where you are.

This Is Not About “Getting Your Body Back”

I will always say this clearly: Baby & Me Fitness is not about getting your body back, because your body has not gone anywhere.

Your body has changed, worked hard and may feel unfamiliar, but it does not need to be punished, rushed or forced into someone else’s timeline. It needs support, strength, patience and the right kind of movement.

This class is about helping you build strength and confidence in a way that feels safe and sustainable. It is about reconnecting with your body, not criticising it, and understanding what your body has been through so you can give it the support it deserves.
