Personal Training in Colinton, Edinburgh for Real Life

There’s always a point in May where it hits a bit differently. The weather shifts, holidays start getting mentioned, and suddenly there’s that quiet thought in the back of your mind:

“I should probably do something…”

Not in a dramatic, January way.Just a gentle awareness that summer is coming, and you’d quite like to feel a bit better in yourself before it arrives. And if that’s where you’re at, you’re not alone.

Why This Time of Year Feels Different

For a lot of the women I work with here in Edinburgh, this isn’t about chasing a “summer body.”

It’s more about:

  • feeling more comfortable in your clothes

  • having a bit more energy

  • feeling stronger and more like yourself again

Especially if you’re juggling work, kids, and everything else that comes with life. The challenge is, this time of year often triggers that familiar pattern:start something quickly, try to do everything, burn out, stop - sound familiar?

And then feel like you’re back to square one.

Why “Starting Over” Doesn’t Work

The idea that you need to “start over” is where most plans go wrong. Because you’re not starting from nothing. You’ve already got a life, a routine, a body that’s been through things - and any plan that ignores that is going to feel like hard work very quickly.

Research consistently shows that short, intense fitness bursts are far less effective long-term than consistent, manageable routines. It’s not about how hard you go for a few weeks - it’s about what you can actually sustain.

And for most women, especially post-children or navigating busy schedules, sustainability looks like:

  • shorter, more focused sessions

  • flexibility around your week

  • support when things don’t go to plan

Not a rigid, all-or-nothing approach.

Why Getting Fit for Summer in Edinburgh Looks Different With Me

As a personal trainer based in Colinton, Edinburgh, working from my own private gym, this is exactly what I focus on.

Because fitness shouldn’t feel like something you have to squeeze in around your life. It should fit into it.

Working from a private gym space means:

  • no waiting for equipment

  • no crowded environments

  • no feeling like you need to keep up with anyone else

It’s your session, your pace, your focus. And for a lot of women, that makes showing up feel a lot easier.

Showcase: What This Looks Like in Practice

The goal isn’t to push you into doing more for the sake of it. It’s to build something that actually works.

I’ve tried so many times and had PT sessions in the hope that I’d get into it, nothing seemed to give me the bug till I met Susan. I’ve gone from hating the gym to loving it. She’s always available to answer questions or go through anything you’re not sure about. I feel really lucky to have met and work with Susan as I now look forward to my workouts. Not only do I see the difference but mentally I can feel the difference from the workouts.

That’s always the aim. Not to overwhelm you, but to help you build strength, confidence and consistency in a way that feels realistic.

Because when your training is built around your life, not against it, everything feels different.

A More Sustainable Way to Get Fit for Summer

If you’re thinking about getting fitter before summer, the best place to start isn’t with a drastic plan.

It’s with something that you can keep going with.

That might look like:

  • a couple of strength sessions each week

  • a mix of in-person and online support

  • short, manageable workouts at home

  • or simply building movement back into your routine

For many of the women I work with, a hybrid approach works best - combining personal training sessions in my Colinton gym with flexible online support in between.

That way you get structure, accountability and guidance, without it taking over your life.

Getting Started (Without the Pressure)

You don’t need to overhaul everything to feel better this summer. You don’t need to train every day. You don’t need to follow a strict plan. You don’t need to “start again.” You just need to start somewhere that works for you.

Because feeling stronger, having more energy, and being more comfortable in your body doesn’t come from doing everything at once.

It comes from doing the right things - consistently, and with the right support!
